Performance Food Group is a company that cares. We are committed to the well-being of our customers and associates, as well as the communities we call home. At PFG, we have developed a culture of giving back to those communities.
As a provider of food and food-related products, the goal of ending hunger in the communities we serve is at the core of our company. For more than ten years, Performance Food Group has proudly partnered with Feeding America – a national organization that delivers food and grocery products to food banks for distribution to hungry Americans. Since 2009, we have donated more than four million pounds of food to local food banks. More importantly, our associates volunteer their time and talents by working in the food bank warehouses, conducting local food drives, and raising funds in their communities.
Most recently, associates across PFG participated in our annual companywide food drive, generously giving food, money and time, to help fight hunger. PFG donated nearly 465,000 pounds of food, along with $52,000 and more than 800 volunteer hours. Those efforts touched thousands of people, many of them children, who otherwise may go without food. Along with our annual efforts, PFG is always ready to lend a helping hand during unpredictable situations that leave our communities in need.
When Hurricanes Harvey and Irma devastated the U.S. in 2017, many Performance locations were ready to lend a helping hand. Working with the American Red Cross, our locations were able to provide needed funds and other items to help aid the victims of these terrible storms. Storms like these emphasize the importance of being invested in our communities not just during natural disasters, but in every situation we can. At PFG we support our communities year-round through a variety of programs and events.
Our Associates in Georgia are active with organizations like The Georgia Mountain Foodbank and the March of Dimes, donating more than $8000 in cash and food items each year. Down at our Houma, Louisiana location, our associates have teamed up with various local organizations such as the LRA Education Foundation, helping to provide scholarship opportunities to aspiring chefs, who otherwise might not have the opportunity. Last year alone, they raised over $15,000 for towards this cause and a handful of others.
Our Richmond, Virginia Performance Foodservice location continues to support the fight against hunger donating nearly 62,000 pounds of food to FeedMore’s central Virginia Foodbank, in the last 9 months alone. FeedMore provides hunger relief to over 200,000 children, families, and seniors in Central Virginia. And, right along with Performance Foodservice, our Vistar division is dedicated to supporting the needs of their communities nationwide. In 2017, Vistar raised more than $12,000 for numerous organizations in their community.
PFG is committed to giving back, and these activities are just a small sampling of how much we love and support our communities throughout the country. Tanner Phillips, a Corporate Accounts Representative who has been with PFG for almost 2 years says, “It is rewarding to work for PFG knowing that the company cares about its associates and the communities they serve.” At Performance Food Group, we believe that no one should go hungry. Through the commitment of our associates to give back to the communities where we live and work, we take steps every day to help make that goal a reality.
